Views from Nainital

Views from Nainital are quite spectacular when you get into the hills surrounding the lake. My first visit back in the late 1990s was a day excursion from Garjia Corbett Riverside Resort in Jim Corbett National Park some 50kms away. Nainital is located in the Kumaon district at the foothills of the Himalayas in Northern India.

I remember the long hours drive from the plains to Nainital which is around 2250m above sea level. The many turns and hairpin bends can make even the seasoned traveler a little nauseous. Once arriving at Nainital the first destination was the boat house on the lake for tea but soon after we were off to Tiffin Top to see the views across Nainital to the Himalayas.

We were lucky enough that it was a clear sunny day for our visit and I managed to get these shots with my film camera. The negatives from these photos, taken in the late 1990s, have been scanned and retouched in Photoshop.
